Optic-Cam LLC in Sterling Heights, Michigan, is a growing CNC machining shop, with plans to expand its business from its automotive base to the production of precision dies, molds, and components for the medical and aerospace industries. Company President, Mike Gallagher selected an Okuma MB-56VA for its versatility in handling a wide range of jobs.
Mike is using the MB-56VA, with a 15,000-RPM spindle, for high speed machining and hard milling to achieve the improved throughput and better surface finishes those techniques offer. "The bridge style design makes the machine extremely rigid and the box linear ways offer speed and accuracy. The combination makes the MB-56VA a great package for implementing high speed machining and hard milling."
The matched components in the control system of the MB-56VA were another reason Mike chose the machine. "Matched components add a higher level of speed and accuracy to the machine. We have no trouble holding 'tenths' on dimensions. I've also found the control system to be very easy to use and easy to transition to. My goal is to move to a lights out operation quickly, and I believe I can do that with the confidence this machine creates."
Mike's goal is to be able to service every customer with accurate, cost effective machining capability. "I feel with the MB-56VA I have the one machine that can handle everything from prototype work to hard milling."
