Road Map to Your CNC Machine’s Operating System
04.11.2017
Your Okuma CNC machine is built based on a set of standard features that include one or more optional features that make the machine operate better or more efficiently for you. How your machine is built and configured will in turn define how the machine software configuration is built. Each machine software configuration is captured on the Software Data Management Card at the time the software is produced. Each machine gets its own unique Data Management Card that remains with the machine.
The Data Management Card is provided with each machine in a hard copy format and is placed in the electrical control cabinet inside the drawing pocket. On newer OSP-P control machines, there are two formats available for reviewing your Data Management Card. In addition to the hard copy, there is an electronic version stored on the machine’s hard drive. This electronic version can be accessed at any time you want to review this data. Please refer to the screen shot below to see an example of the location of the Data Management Card on a current P300M control machine. The file is located on your machine’s hard drive at the location C:OSP-POSPMNGCD.CNC. This file can be accessed using Windows Explorer and by drilling down to the location mentioned above and shown below.

This Data Management Card contains a wealth of information about the current version of software that is operating your Okuma CNC machine and hence the reason for the Road Map reference. Located at the top of the Data Management Card is the OSP control model of your machine, the specific machine model and serial number. Next it will show the software revision history where you can see the date of the latest software revision. The next section shows the current version number of the Windows System CD and the OSP System CD. Both of these version numbers are very important when machine issues arise and the current software version has to be verified. If these version numbers are ever questioned by your Okuma Distributor, hopefully now you will know how to quickly and easily locate them.
The next section contains the specific Windows System Version and, if applicable, the specific Custom Application Programming Interface (API) version. Once again, this data is very important if you need to know the current Windows version running in your machine or if there is a question about the version of API operating in your machine. Please see the example below:

Next are all the individual files listed out with a brief description explaining their function. These files won’t mean as much to you as a customer as they do to us at Okuma when we are reviewing or investigating the machine software.
The last three to five pages contain the machine Spec Codes that get activated when the machine software is produced. These spec codes are turned on based on the machine standard functionality as well as any optional features that are required on the machine. These Spec Codes are helpful when trying to determine if certain functionality is active on your machine.
I hope this explanation of your Okuma Machine Data Management Card will help you if you ever need to take a look or answer questions about your machine software.
