How to Run Parts Without Even Knowing G-Code (Video)

What if you could design your machine’s CNC control to match YOUR application? Well, the OSP control allows you to do this. Our fully open architecture platform was crafted to suit manufacturing needs for today, and for the future. To show you the possibilities using our control, I’ve created a series of brief videos that demonstrate what’s possible with our open architecture control.

Making It Easy As Possible

This first video features Moser Engineering, a customer who is using Okumas to cut custom axle flange hole patterns. They had operators without a lot of CNC machining experience, and they needed to find a way to make the user process on their machine tools as easy as possible. Watch the video and see how our distributor Gosiger went into the control and created a GUI interface so the Moser operators don’t even see the OSP controls, or have to call up any programs at all.

There are many interesting aspects to this story (see the article in Modern Machine Shop magazine), but to me there are a few key takeaways from a control perspective:

• This shop, and their distributor, didn’t have to come to their builder, Okuma, to do this with their machine tool or with their software. They were completely empowered to innovate on their own.
• They had complete freedom to create a custom interface to best suit the unique needs of their personnel
• Their app solved a specific and unique problem – one that we, as the builder, would have no way of envisioning
• The custom control interface is easy to use, even for operators with very little experience
