40% Increase in Part Production
01.21.2016
At the Manufacturing Excellence event Jill Taylor from MP Systems showed attendees how they can enhance productivity by improving production processes. “When you invest in a high-tech machine tool like an Okuma, you have the opportunity to use it to its fullest potential,” she explained. “The goal is to make that machine do more for you.” MP Systems partners with Okuma distributors and their customers to provide high pressure coolant systems and chillers that maximize productivity, often with stunning results.
40% Increase in Part Production
To provide an example of how processes can be improved, Jill related the results achieved by a Hartwig customer in Dallas. They conducted a trial using an MP RF8 high pressure coolant system and an MP 1200 mist collection system on an Okuma LB3000 horizontal CNC lathe. Previously this shop had been using low pressure flood coolant, and they had a process that involved 7 stops and a total cycle time of 24:01 minutes. When they added the high pressure coolant system, the cycle time was slashed to 12:30 minutes and zero stops, achieving a 48% decrease in overall cycle time. The efficiency of the new process is largely due to removing the chip clearance time that added several stops to their old process, and the ability to increase speeds and feeds of the cutting tool. The high pressure coolant enabled them to make the most of their Okuma machine tool and increased weekly part production by 40%.
