Debunking Shrink Fit Myths (Video)
07.15.2015
There are lots of myths out there about “heat shrink,” also known as shrink fit technology. Sometimes shops think it’s not safe because workers can get burned. Others may think it’s time-consuming, and even too expensive. In this video Tom Marron of Haimer (a member of Partners in THINC), shows us why these shrink fit myths couldn’t be further from the truth.
Debunking Shrink Fit Myths
Tom says these kinds of misperceptions have been around since shrink fit was introduced in the U.S. But with Haimer’s Power Clamp they’re simply not true. Watch the video where he provides a demonstration that dispels three common shrink fit myths:
- Danger of Getting Burned? Not a problem. After a tool has been shrunk in, the hot tool is rotated away from the operator, and a cooling adapter is placed over the tool itself. This protects the hot tool so you can physically touch it, and you don’t have to worry about anyone coming along and accidentally burning themselves.
- Time-Consuming? It’s actually a speedy process. With the Power Clamp’s shrink fit technology, it takes less than 5 seconds to shrink a tool, and less than a minute to cool it down.
- Too Expensive? It’s important to consider total cost. When you’re replacing collets and nuts and performing maintenance on other types of holders, this adds to the total cost of the process. With shrink fit, there’s no maintenance work that has to be done, and no parts to replace. It’s strictly metal-to-metal contact, and overall a cost-efficient solution.
We hope this helps open your mind to the possibilities of shrink fit technology. Haimer’s Power Clamp line offers the world’s largest range of products, from a beginner model, Power Clamp Basic, to the high-end Power Clamp Premium Plus. It’s likely there’s a model here that perfectly suits your needs. If you’d like some help exploring the options, please feel free to contact us or your local distributor.
