Many people wonder how to get started with machine tool apps. The easiest way is to go to the Okuma App Store and download apps that have already been created and experience the results. But before you get started, there’s one app you should install first that will make the process simple.

SCOUT It Out

SCOUT stands for System Compatibility Output Utility, and it’s designed to quickly identify if your CNC machine is compatible with App Store apps. All applications have certain system requirements, and SCOUT takes the burden off the user to determine which apps are compatible. It provides a detailed report of the system configuration on your machine tool, plus a list of all available apps and their current compatibility status for that machine. Additionally, SCOUT can be used as a simple tool for gathering system information from a particular CNC machine.

SCOUT Requirements

Here’s what you need to know to successfully download SCOUT:

• Hardware: SCOUT will run on any system running Windows^® XP or later. Although it’s designed to run on OSP P100 or newer controls, it will also run on a PC.
• Software: Only the Windows^® operating system is required. If your system does not have Microsoft .NET framework version 2 or later installed, SCOUT will stop checking at that point. For the main SCOUT program to run, and thus check other aspects of the system, .NET 2 or later is required.
