Wolfram Embraces Partners’ Technology

“Aside from hiring good people, successful companies embrace new technology.” This quote from Nathan Byman, president of Wolfram Manufacturing Inc., kicks off a fascinating Modern Machine Shop (MMS) article written by Emily Probst, “Technology Investments Help Young Company Start Strong.” The article chronicles the manufacturing “leaps” this shop has made in its relatively short, 5-year existence. Clearly Mr. Byman is ravenous for the quick competitive edge that technology can provide; he’s embraced offerings from Okuma, Sandvik Coromant Co., MP Systems, Caron Engineering, and Renishaw.

True to Their Word

In Wolfram’s early years they wrote to Okuma describing the plans for their shop. Their words then seem prophetic today:

“Wolfram Manufacturing is a service-based company which provides customers with all of the offerings of a CNC Machine Shop with turnkey support. Led by a tight knit, fun loving group of professionals with decades of experience in service and manufacturing, Wolfram is building a unique concept that will take advantage of both the modern workforce and modern equipment to support manufacturing in the United States. With a blank slate, empty shop and the goal in mind to achieve a truly lean manufacturing shop, Wolfram set out to find the right equipment and people to make it happen.” (See the complete original write-up from Wolfram here.)

It seems they’re succeeding on their promise. MMS quotes Mr. Byman saying “We had a specific vision starting out…Most of the country is still struggling to get there, primarily because shops have a hard time wrapping their arms around the technology needed to accomplish it. But when you start out that way, you realize the gains immediately, and you know that you would never want to go back to the old way of machining.”
