Our training opportunities for Okuma customers, employees, and distributors are part of the formula for career and industry success. If you’re going to manufacture with the best machine tools on the market, you must be well-trained in the technology. We make it easy with the Okuma Machine Tool Academy and the Okuma Apprenticeship Program.
We partner with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College to provide OEM training for our products and technologies at the Rowan-Cabarrus Advanced Technology Center in Kannapolis, N.C. Okuma Machine Tool Academy’s (OMTA) purpose is to provide educational opportunities to our distributors and customers on a variety of skills, from legacy machines and controls to the newest technology.
From small job shops to large companies like GE Aerospace, Deere & Company, SpaceX, Blue Origin, Harley-Davidson, and Nissan, every student at OMTA has the same goal: to become as efficient as possible on an Okuma machine. We offer courses to help you achieve this goal, including mechanical maintenance, programming and operation of lathes and machining centers, and custom courses are available upon request.
Rowan-Cabarrus’ state-of-the-art Advanced Technology Center (ATC) not only supports an ideal corporate technical training environment but also provides an aesthetically pleasing and interactive learning atmosphere. Opened in 2019, the ATC facility is over 53,000 square feet, and the Flex Lab is equipped with overhead utilities to support flexible machine layouts. Classrooms are all equipped with AirMedia presentation packages, 10GB Wi-Fi, comfortable seating and tables, and access to collaboration spaces and student lounges.
Other manufacturing-related programs located in the ATC provide interaction and possible integration with other industry disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and industrial engineering; mechatronics, robotics, additive manufacturing, plastic injection molding, and IIoT/Industry 4.0 cyber-physical security.
The ATC is located on the North Carolina Research Campus in downtown Kannapolis, N.C. — less than 30 minutes from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and 42 miles from Okuma America’s Charlotte headquarters. Downtown Kannapolis provides an all-in-one experience for visiting students where they can dine, recreate, and stay within walking distance of the ATC.
