Hot Job? Quick Change Fixturing Can Save Your Day (Video)
01.09.2013
When a “hot job” comes in, it’s often necessary to jump on it to keep your customers happy. But this can wreak havoc with your planned production run. With the right CNC machine, and the right setup, it can be done, with minimum interruption to the job already running. Check out this brief video, where Jeff Estes, Director of Partners in THINC, demonstrates how the latest workholding technology can quickly shift a hot job into production. In this example, a pneumatic Schunk Veros quick change fixture, shown on an Okuma GENOS M460 vertical CNC machining center, can save your day.
Learn the basic steps of the process:
- Loading the program into your CNC machine (Okuma’s OSP CNC control makes it simple)
- 2 essential tool verifications that must be performed
- How to repeat the tool position to within 5 microns or 0.0002 inches
- Use the probing system to find the final work offset
- Complete the full changeover in 10-15 minutes
- Get the original job back up and running on your CNC machine
