4 Little-Known OSP Control Functions

Mark Hamielec

I spend a lot of time meeting with Okuma customers (and customers-to-be) and I really enjoy the opportunity to have these one-on-one conversations. Recently I attended the Morris Madness open house event in the Chicago area (my hometown) where they had record number of folks in attendance. I also go out on the road to do training sessions and other distributor events. Some people are seasoned Okuma users learning about advanced functionalities, while others are new to Okuma and learning the basics. The biggest takeaway for me is that there are some great features on our controllers that seem to be best-kept secrets, both for the experienced users and the newbies alike. So I thought I’d share a few here as a reminder of some handy functions you might not even know you have on your control.

Position Set Relative: This function can be used to reset numbers on your screen when measuring features:

DXF File Read: This can be used to import data from engineering models so you don’ have to redraw the shapes:

Another File: This allows you to open another program and share code between both programs (e.g. copy and paste):

Find/Replace: You can use this to do a mass edit that removes line numbers, which are not always needed and removing them makes the code easier to read:

A Two-Way Street

I enjoy sharing tips like these when I meet customers, but then these meetings are always a two-way street. I receive a lot of good ideas in return, which I share with our team here at Okuma. We benefit and learn from each other, and this helps us get to the next level of advanced CNC machining.
