New Features on Our Popular 5-Axis Vertical Machining Center

These days, everyone wants a 5-axis machine. When you consider the compelling benefits they provide ¬ efficiency, ability to handle complex parts, and accuracy ¬ owning one of these machines is simply a no-brainer. When Okuma introduced the affordable GENOS M460V-5AX 5-axis vertical machining center a little over a year ago, it quickly became one of our most popular machines, and remains so to this day.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

In the spirit of “monozukuri”, our commitment to continuous improvement, we’re always looking for ways to improve our products. So we’ve been working on new features for this machine tool that take it to the next level. Here I’ll describe two new capabilities that are capturing the interest of customers.

New Features on the GENOS M460V-5AX

50% Increase in Tool Capacity: We now offer the capability to have 48 tools on this machine – that’s 16 extra tools. More tools means less tool changes, so this reduces the number of times the operator needs to stop/start the machine. This is especially useful for complex parts, and also allows for efficiencies like redundant tooling. Having extra pockets means that, if a tool starts to wear down, a backup tool can be ready in the machine to act as a quick replacement.

Enhanced Chip Evacuation: Chip evacuation is now handled by mechanical coils, which are easy to maintain and can process large amounts of metal removal.

More Affordable Than Ever

We designed the M460V-5AX to manufacture high-precision parts. Its solid double-column structure, full 5-axis simultaneous control, and thermal stability give it the ability to easily cut a variety of materials, plus it delivers high metal removal rates in a compact design. The good news is, this machine is more affordable than ever, with no sacrifice in our well-known Okuma quality. If you’re thinking about it, I encourage you to contact us or your Okuma distributor to learn more.
