Bridging the Skills Gap: Using Quick Change Fixturing for Unplanned Production
05.21.2013
With the mandate for lean operations more prevelant than ever, it’s important to keep interruptions to a minimum. However planned production runs don’t always have the luxury of running without interruptions. With the right CNC machine, and the right set up, unplanned machining can be done with minimal interruption by following these simple steps:
- Load the program into your CNC machine (Okuma’s OSP CNC control makes this simple)
- Review the program to ensure accuracy
- Check the ATC to verify all tools are there and make sure tool information is loaded in the tool data
- Remove current job and clean work surface
- Once the new job is on, plug the pneumatic line
- Use the probing system to find final work offsets
Once this job is completed, you’re ready to go back to your original job. Simply repeat the process and you’re ready to get back to production.
