Drive Unit Repairs? Here’s Your Best Option

When it comes to replacing or repairing electronic drive units for your CNC machine, the availability, reliability and breadth of options are of the utmost priority. In today’s competitive marketplace, uptime is everything; so in the event of an axis/spindle drive unit failure, determining the best path to getting your CNC machine back to cutting parts is essential. The choice between going directly to your OEM or using a third party repair shop involves several key considerations.

  • Availability: Okuma has more than 3,000 units in exchange stock to support every level of technology for Okuma machines. With nearly 5 million dollars in component inventory to support repairs, Okuma still honors its no-obsolescence policy. In addition to repaired units, over 4 million dollars in new unit inventory is available in the United States.
  • Reliability: Do not be fooled by third party vendors claiming to be “Okuma Certified” or OEM equivalent. Because Okuma designs and builds our machines and controls, you get diagnosis and repair from a single source. All repairs are performed by certified Okuma personnel using OEM replacement parts and are guaranteed for 12 months, saving you up to 50% of the cost of new parts.
  • Options: As part of Okuma’s no-obsolescence policy, new replacements for old style units are always available. But replacement is often just your first option. Okuma’s Exchange Division is still actively exchanging and repairing drives from the OSP5000 control which was released in 1981! Our new Trade-Up Program now provides customers with even more options by providing credits for old units (see the Special Offer in this newsletter for more details).

When faced with a critical situation for your Okuma CNC machine, the OEM advantage is clear. Contact your local Okuma distributor to learn more about your options.
