Okuma Global Repair Center Maximizes Customer Uptime
Mike Vassil 10.23.2025

Receive replacement parts faster and keep downtime low with our service center that has more square footage, more capacity, and more product repair and enhancement capabilities in a dedicated repair space. It’s a win-win-win for customers and our internal team. The Okuma Global Repair Center is expected to open in early 2026.
If your shop produces $8,000 in parts each hour and production runs for 24 hours nonstop, a day of spindle downtime is $192,000 lost in revenue. In two days, that’s $384,000 gone. Damaged drives and broken boards or other mechanical and electrical components can pose the same troubles, risking important deadlines, customer satisfaction, and profitability when even one goes down.
The spindle is the heart of every machine tool; drives and boards are the brains. Even the best-crafted and highest-performance mechanical and electrical components for CNC machine tools ultimately experience failures, particularly when being used at maximum capacity. Yet, across our industry, there’s often uncertainty — in spindle replacement availability and when new drives and boards will arrive once ordered. Both scenarios place extra, unwelcome pressure on manufacturing operations.
That’s why we’re reimagining what’s possible for every Okuma customer with an expansion of our service and repair capabilities at the new Okuma Global Repair Center. We’ve always supported every spindle, board, and drive ever made for our machines with fast repairs and replacements. Now, we’re supporting them to a greater degree, completing more jobs in less time to minimize machine disruptions and keep cutting time high.
This dedicated, state-of-the-art space extends our current capacity for spindle repairs, enhances our replacement-part capabilities, expands our aftermarket offering, and elevates our ability to restore components for all Okuma technologies. Put simply, we can supply customers with their required boards, drives, and more, faster, reducing costly downtime.
The Okuma Global Repair Center is set to open in early 2026 — and promises to keep your machines cutting, your productivity protected, and your wait times extremely low. Everything you need to know is below.
The New Space

The Okuma Global Repair Center is the latest addition to Okuma America Corporation’s campus in Charlotte, North Carolina. There’s 35,000 square feet of room to work, optimize processes, and scale our volume of serviced components — it’s a 300+% increase from our current 8,000 square-foot space at HQ.
The Capabilities and Processes

Centralizing service functions offers a high degree of control in how we get customers the components they need with absolute minimal downtime, and in how we repair spindles, boards, and other components to broaden our inventory (we’ll have thousands in stock). So do the optimizations we’re adding to the new facility, like simulators to help us train with complex equipment, and other technologies that assist in the flawless, fast execution of repairs. All help create the following capabilities and processes:
- Ship same day or next day: As soon as we’re notified, we can send customers an OEM-certified replacement — often before we receive your damaged component. It’s a true swap. We don’t require your spindle or board in hand before we ship the new one(s) to you.
- Increased inventory: We can house more cores and boards, the parts needed to repair units that come in the door, and ready-to-go replacements than ever before. Our large, vertical inventory storage system stretches from floor to ceiling and increases our agility in getting customers the right parts.
- Clean room environment: Our isolated clean room will help prevent contaminants (even those that are invisible) from damaging spindle bearings, internal components, boards, etc., as they’re reassembled or ready for shipment. Our controlled inspection and preparation processes keep rebuilds successful and replacement parts reliable.
With mechanical and electrical repair teams streamlined under one roof, it’s easier for our in-house technicians to achieve peak operational efficiency, respond quickly to customer requests, and adjust workflows to accommodate the always-dynamic influx of components.
To initiate a replacement, contact your local distributor, who will confirm your part number from our system and help submit the request.
The Options Installation Domino Effect

The migration and expansion of our mechanical exchange and board repair operations create a similar opportunity for another service group at Okuma. Our options installation team is growing into a bigger space at HQ, creating more capacity, quicker turnaround times, and higher responsiveness for custom-order machines.
This group will add four bays and gain capacity to install applications on 15 additional machines each month. Customers’ machine tools can arrive at sites earlier and be ready to run, instead of requiring add-ons and downtime later. It’s like buying a truck and having the dealer add a lift kit before you drive it home.
The Growing Team

Our team of in-house technicians is 28 strong and counting — as our new space transforms in size, so does the team required to complete jobs as quickly as possible. Joining our current team will be a mix of 10-15 mechanical exchange experts, additional electronic repair experts, material handlers to process inventory from start to finish, and forecasting analysts. Not only does this growth bring around 35 new, long-term careers to the Charlotte area, but it also reaffirms our commitment to increasing the capacities and speeds at which we can fully operate.

The Bottom Line

For every spindle, exchange replacements are shipped fast. For every board, repaired units are on their way to you in no time. For every request made, we step in as soon as possible. We want our answer to be “yes” to anything we’re asked of. The Okuma Global Repair Center is how we do this; it alleviates break-fix pressures of your machines’ most important components, providing rapid-response support that minimizes disruptions and downtime. If spindles, boards, or drives go down, your workflows won’t.
