Celebrating Generations of Innovation

Jim King

This year we’re celebrating the 125th anniversary of Okuma Corporation, plus the 60th anniversary of our OSP control, and both milestones are meaningful not only to our company but to the manufacturing industry as a whole. As we reflect on achievements in support of our customers there’s one driving force that has remained consistent over time: the pursuit of innovation. This takes many forms and often involves contributions from the broader manufacturing industry, including our distributors, technology partners and customers. Through the generations of our company’s history we’ve collectively been able to contribute to our industry becoming a world class leader for manufacturing around the globe.

A Solid Foundation

One of Okuma’s unique offerings is our control, which, through the course of its evolution has driven and enabled an ongoing series of technology advancements. Providing the foundation for all these technological achievements is the open architecture platform that Okuma’s control is based on, which enables almost limitless innovation, past, present and future. Today the things that the open architecture control makes possible are more crucial than ever.

The OSP control is helping shops take advantage of, and simplify, implementation of various forms of automation, connecting to peripheral equipment, and creating custom solutions through use of our readily-available APIs.

Next-Generation Machine Control

As one example of advancing technology options, we recently debuted our next-generation machine control – the Okuma OSP-P500. This control leverages the OSP line’s 60-year history and, coupled with today’s digital transformation technologies, is designed to enhance user experiences and fully optimize modern manufacturing operations.

A Premier Automation Supplier

We’ve continued to invest in evolving the functionality and capabilities of the open architecture control to enable our customers to climb up the curve of technology and remain competitive in a dynamic global marketplace. Today this places our focus squarely on automation, which tackles our modern dilemmas around lack of available workforce and need for maximum productivity. The goal we have in our sights is to leverage our legacy of technological advancement to become a premier automation supplier.

We look forward to continuing the pursuit of innovation, on behalf of our customers and our industry, for generations to come.
